In 2002, the Nation signed a Gaming Compact with the State of New York under the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act to cooperate in the establishment of three “class III gaming” casino facilities, which included slot machines, table games and other amenities and offerings typical of Las Vegas style casinos. The Nation established the Seneca Gaming Corporation to manage the development and operation of those three casino facilities.

Under the Compact, the Nation agreed to pay a portion of its revenues on slot machines and other gaming devices to New York State in exchange for the exclusive right to offer these devices west of State Route 14

The Seneca Nation currently owns and operates three casinos: the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino on the Niagara Falls Territory in Niagara Falls, New York; the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino in Salamanca on the Allegany Territory; and the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in downtown Buffalo on the Buffalo Creek Territory.
